I love stained glass and the way the light penetrates its imperfections. I didn't want to copy actual stained glass but wanted to try and obtain similar effects in oil.

I was inspired to paint this by a photograph of an Italian tile floor. It is fairly heavily textured, having started life as a panel covered with molding paste blown by a leaf blower.
